A Journey Dream With A Weird Ending

As you may already know, your dreams can play an integral role in understanding who you are, revealing how you feel about aspects of your life and identifying what your subconscious desires are. When interpreting dreams, we first analyze the dream’s symbols to draw conclusions about the overarching theme and meanings. Themes are also a relevant part of dreams, and a journey dream can show you a lot about your subconscious mind. A Twisted Tale That Turns Beautiful

“I had this dream when I was about six years old.

“I was running from the field and I was still a little girl and there was a witch on a broom flying it, all black with her little pointy witch hat. She was chasing me and I was running so fast. I was so scared in this part of the dream and I remember it being just either black and white or really unsaturated colors. I was freaking out and trying to run as fast as I could. I ran on the street toward my grandma’s house and I could hear the witch laughing behind me.

“I finally got inside of my grandma’s house, which has a roof that you can go onto, making it essentially three floors. It’s a long, skinny house with a winding staircase that I began to run up. I remember being scared of the stairs and having to be super careful on them because of how spiraled they are. I ran to the second floor, and the witch was almost there. I got to the roof, thinking I escaped the witch, but she suddenly flew up from the front of the house. She caught me right when I thought I was safe.

“All of a sudden, a huge butterfly appears. I remember my grandmother’s voice at this point…and suddenly, there is color everywhere. It looked like an acid trip, or like Alice in Wonderland—there was color everywhere. The witch is gone. The tension is gone. It’s just me on a roof, staring at the butterfly and all of the colors.

“Suddenly, all of the colors change. I thought I was crazy because this was the first time I realized I could dream in color. The first half of the dream, the tree was black and white – but in the second half, it was in color. I remember getting on the giant butterfly and it taking me for a ride flying over a beautiful colorful version of my hometown.

“This was a nightmare that did a complete 180 and turned out beautifully.”

Dream Symbols

The dreamer embarks on a journey to her grandmother’s house and experiences various obstacles + interesting imagery along the way. There are various symbols that stood out to our team as significant. For this interpretation, we analyzed the following symbols and drew conclusions about their meanings.

RUNNING

Why do you run in your dreams?

While there are various interpretations of this symbol, the muted colors and witch infer that the dreamer is avoiding facing something in their life.

WITCH

What does a witch mean in your dreams?

This symbol can represent that the dreamer may feel victim to something in waking life, but she’s transforming, healing and becoming wiser because of it. She could be in a position to face your fears and conquer them.

GRANDMOTHER

What does a grandmother mean in your dreams?

Grandparents usually represent security, so it’s natural that the dreamer runs from the witch toward her grandmother’s home: a place where she feels safe. Grandmothers can also symbolize that the dreamer is on a search for knowledge.

STAIRS

What do stairs mean in your dreams?

Dreaming about stairs is typically associated with personal growth. Climbing upwards represents moving forward or advancing. While fearing what is at the top of the stairs indicates that the dreamer might be afraid of growth, ascending the stairs shows that she’s willing to face life head-on.

BUTTERFLY

What does a butterfly mean in your dreams?

This is a classic symbol of transformation. The dreamer rides on a butterfly over her hometown, which might symbolize leaving her hometown behind her as she travels out into the world. Because the butterfly did not land during the dream, it shows that the dreamer will move through social groups with ease, not forming deep bonds, but rather having many friends.

COLORS

What do colors mean in your dream? Do does dreaming in black in white mean in your dreams?

Due to the absence of color before the grandmother spoke, colors in this dream may represent spiritual awakening. The fact that this dream was the first in which the dreamer realized that she could dream “in color” furthers the notion that she experienced a transformation or spiritual awakening in real life.

Overarching Theme - Journey

It’s common to dream about journeys when you’re experiencing a significant change in your life or transitioning from one life phase to the next. If you’ve recently graduated, gotten engaged or had your first child, don’t be surprised if you find yourself having dreams that include a journey of some sort. These are all significant transitions that affect your life, mental state + overarching desires.

Generally speaking, pleasant journeys indicate that you’re anticipating a transition in your life. You view the change to be exciting and positive—you believe it to be for the better. However, if you feel lost or afraid while journeying through your dream, you may be dreading an upcoming life change. It is important to analyze how you feel in the dream to determine how you feel in waking life.

Direction can play an important role in a dream’s meaning too. For example, traveling west indicates a journey toward old age or death, while traveling east signifies rejuvenation! Everyone experiences transitions in life and dreams are a compass that can guide us to understand how we really feel about them.

Summary

This dream shows that the 6-year-old dreamer had mixed feelings about growing up and transitioning into a new phase of life (perhaps going to kindergarten or moving to a new town). She turns to her family to feel safe, but she is confident enough to face her fears alone. The dreamer’s subconscious was trying to show her the value of her family during difficult transitions, as well as remind her that she is brave enough to move forward and transform during this time in her life.

The most powerful aspect of this dream, in our opinion, is the change of color mid-way through the dream. This symbolism highlights the dreamer’s subconscious awareness that she can face her fears, despite the fact that aspects of her waking life were changing and transitioning. We believe that the dreamer has a fond view of her grandmother and relies on her family, but she is still able to move forward in life with self-awareness and independence. Her strong social skills likely play a large role in her life today.
