Free + Fun Nashville Scavenger Hunt

Launched during quarantine, mindmilk understands the effects the pandemic has on our minds and communities. As a local business, the Centric Creative team relates to  the many challenges local businesses are facing this year, which inspired them to create the mindmilk Scavenger Hunt: Nashville’s Murals Brought to Life.

For the mindmilk scavenger hunt, the team added hidden A.R. elements to various murals around the city, bringing Nashville to life in a new and exciting way. They strategically structured the missions outdoors to support local businesses and spread positivity—all while adhering to the COVID-19 safety guidelines. This event encourages Nashville to look beyond what the eyes can see and to embrace what makes this city so special: our community.

When quarantine started, our team experienced some interesting dreams,” said Christy Beckwith, CMO of Centric Creative. “We looked for an online community where people could discuss their dreams, find meaning and feel less alone. It didn’t exist, so we built one and called it mindmilk.

The mindmilk Scavenger Hunt will run from Sept. 1-30. The game is free for all ages, and it can be played alone or with your quarantine crew. The scavenger hunt is structured as “play at your own pace,” meaning that players can join the game and complete missions at any time throughout the month.

Players must have at least one smartphone with the GooseChase App downloaded to play. On the GooseChase App, search “mindmilk Scavenger Hunt: Nashville’s Murals Brought to Life” to view the instructions and join the game. A live draw for the $2000 cash prize will take place on Oct. 2.

The scavenger hunt leads players through a story that spreads positivity, as it celebrates Nashville’s history, community and businesses. Giving a few clues away, Nashville’s historic Hatch Show Print and singer songwriter Drew Holcomb are participating in the upcoming mindmilk Scavenger Hunt. Players will uncover other participating businesses, iconic restaurants and beloved attractions throughout the scavenger hunt.

We wanted to create a unique event that would get people out of their homes safely, allowing them to have fun and see this incredible city in a new way,” said Beckwith. “We partnered with GooseChase App, the leaders in ‘create-your-own’ scavenger hunts, and the innovative thinkers at ROAR Augmented Reality, so we could fully execute an experience that Nashville has never seen before.

The two apps you’ll need to complete the scavenger hunt are GooseChase and ROAR Augmented Reality. Both apps are available for free on the Apple + Google Store.

On the GooseChase app, search “mindmilk” to join our game. GooseChase allows players to join as guests. To enter to win our grand prize you’ll need to use your email address to make an account, earn 5000 points and submit at least four AR mural missions. Very easy to do!

Once you’re load the game, our first mission explains everything. You’ll see a list of missions with tons of clues to help you navigate through our hunt! The missions will be available throughout the game from September 1st to September 30th.

Following the clues will lead you to different murals, attractions and businesses around the city of Nashville.

Once you’ve arrived at an AR mural, the clue will tell you to open the ROAR Augmented Reality app on your phone. Hold your smartphone up to the mural and press the blue button. The app will take care of the rest. It’s that easy!

ROAR transforms parts of the mural, bringing them to life—using nothing but your smartphone! The ROAR app enhances the real life images captured by your camera with text, graphics, audio and other animations. You can record videos or take pictures of the AR murals and save them to your phone!

How To Win:

Each mission has a set point value. And every mission is different to keep you curious and entertained throughout the entire hunt. Once a mission is successfully completed, you’ll earn the points shown. The more points you earn, the more entries you’ll have in our $2,000 grand prize draw on October 2nd. There is a live leaderboard on GooseChase too, so you can see where you’re ranked in real time.

We’ve also included super challenges for the scavenger hunt pros out there! Successfully completing these missions enters you to win an additional $500 prize, courtesy of Centric Creative and Centric Growth Partners. The super challenges are clearly labeled in the GooseChase app, so you won’t miss them!

FAQ

What is mindmilk?

Mindmilk is a mental wellness brand, owned by local creative + marketing agency Centric Creative. We started a community where people can discuss their dreams and find out about the mind.

You can text us at +1 (615) 398-6846.

How do I win the grand prize?

Registered players must earn at least 5,000 points to be entered to win our grand prize. Earning more points increases the number of times players can be entered to win. A live draw to announce the lucky winner will take place on October 2, 2020. The mindmilk team will reach out to the winner via e-mail/text message to notify them that they’ve won.

Who can play? Is it free?

YES! Our scavenger hunt is totally free for all players. So bring your kids or your quarantine crew. All ages are welcome.

What is a scavenger hunt?

A scavenger hunt is a game (typically played outdoors) that requires players to find various locations or items. Players follow clues in order to complete tasks or “missions.” Scavenger hunts work best with small teams, but players can compete individually as well. Our scavenger hunt uses creative, fun and thought-provoking questions + clues to bring out the best in Nashville—and you and your team!

What is Augmented Reality?

Augmented Reality or “AR” takes real life elements (in our case, murals) and enhances them with text, graphics, audio or animations. All you need to access AR elements is the free ROAR Augmented Reality app and a smartphone.

How do I use the ROAR app?

With the ROAR Augmented Reality app, you can scan and interact with AR Content through the lens of your smartphone. Simply download the app and open it on your smartphone.

In the app, you’ll see a blue "recognition" button in the bottom center of your screen. This is what you’ll use to see the AR elements in our murals. Tap this button to scan murals that have been enhanced with AR content.

Once the scan is complete, the mural’s AR elements will appear on your phone screen. To take a photo of the features, click the camera button on the bottom left of your screen. To record a video, allow the ROAR app to screen record by clicking the “rec” button in the bottom right of your screen.

Pro tip: AR features work best when you press the “rec” button.

I can’t see the blue recognition button. What do I do?

If you don’t see the blue button in the ROAR app, double check that you’ve closed the previous experience by tapping the “X” in the top left corner. If you still don't see the blue button, click on the white button at the very bottom of the screen. Then, you can take pictures + videos right in the app!

How do I save photos and videos from the ROAR App?

To save a photo or video, click “Save” in the top right corner. From there, you’ll see a menu that will allow you to save the image to your camera roll or message it to someone else.

How do I know when a mural has AR enhancements?

We’ll tell you! All augmented reality missions are labeled as “AR Art” missions in the GooseChase app. Missions will direct you to use the ROAR app when necessary.

What is GooseChase?

GooseChase is a scavenger hunt app, available for free on the Apple + Google Store. Each GooseChase game has a list of missions for participants to complete. Missions have a name, description, point value and an occasional link to provide extra information.

What types of missions will I do?

Each mission is different and tailored to support our local businesses and artists! Our missions can include asking players to:

  • Submit a text answer

  • Upload a photo or video

  • Text message mindmilk

  • Interact with an AR element

  • Check in at target locations using GPS

  • Support local businesses + nonprofits

Where do I start?

Start your journey at any of the starred missions! Our game is one big story, but each mission with a star emoji ⭐️ marks a different community starting point. We suggest starting at the first starred mission, but if you’d rather pick the closest star to you, go for it! Once you pick your starting point, follow the story from that point on to avoid getting lost.

When does the game start and end?

Our game begins September 1, 2020 and ends on September 30, 2020. You can join the game at any point before the end date. You can register before the start date as well, but missions will not be available until September 1st.

How much time do I have to complete missions?

This is a “play at your own pace” game. You can take as much (or as little) time as you’d like to follow clues and complete missions. The missions are not timed.

Should I drive or walk this scavenger hunt?

Your choice! Our scavenger hunt is designed to be walkable by community, but the entire route is also accessible by car. When going from one neighborhood to another, we recommend using a car. These missions are clearly labeled for those who prefer to walk.

Good Luck and text us at 615-398-6846 with anything else.

Love,
